Poem #16
I feel plain
I feel pain
All these singers and writers
With their indie and aesthetic lines
Couldn’t ever be mine
I feel basic
I feel blue
But I also feel some kind of complicated
Too much
Over the top
I wish my words were gentle
But they’re not
I’m a car crash
I’m a tornado
Flying, spinning out
Shaky ground
Rupture bound
Never predictable
But I want to be sunflowers
And deep conversations for hours
Warm coffee in a cute cup
Promising unconditional love
Beach waves on a morning shore
The smooth stroke of a perfect pen
The purity of a laugh from hearing a joke for the first time
I want to be the lifeline to my beloveds
An inviting smile
A chair that makes you want to stick around awhile
The theme song of a coming-of-age film
Where the memories are our favourites
Of the best days of our lives
So I keep the porch light on
And a cd sings me to sleep
While the window is cracked
And the curtains blow in the wind
With my drum beat heartbeat
Let there be rhythm
Let there always be time
